Character NAME: Leo Valdez
Canon & MEDIUM: Heroes of Olympus (book)
Canon PULL-POINT: Before the landing of the Argo II at Camp Jupiter.
Character AGE: 15-16
Character ABILITIES: Like with most halfbloods, Leo comes with major ADHD and dyslexia. In reality, the ADHD is a built in fighting mechanism. It allows him to analyze and respond in battle quickly. The dyslexia is his brain being hardwired to read Ancient Greek rather than other languages.
Being the son of Hephaestus, the god of blacksmiths and fire, he has a keen ability for working with machines. There isn't much he can't fix if he knows what to do. His most major accomplishments include fixing an rapid metal dragon and giving it wings, and building the Argo II, a giant Greek battle ship. He can also 'sense' traps, and is able to find them and disarm them when no one else can even see them. As for fire, he inherited the ability of pyrokinesis. Not only is he resistant to fire, only feeling a slight stinging when touching the element, he is able to control it and make it do his will. He can also sense fire and heat that is around him, the same way he can with traps.
Besides abilities he gained from his father and by being a halfblood, Leo is able to speak both English and Spanish fluently, and knows Morse Code.
Character HISTORY: Because this book is really long, have a link.
Character PERSONALITY: When you first meet Leo, the first thing you take in is his carefree attitude. He seems to care about having a good time, having a laugh, and backing out when things get tough. But really, this is only the surface of Leo Valdez, brought on as a coping mechanism for his life.
See, Leo's mom died when he was young. He blames himself for her death, because he lost control of his fire powers and the wearhouse they were in burnt down. His resistance from fire protected him, but she didn't make it. Rest of Leo's family didn't want anything to do with him, so he went into the foster system, jumping from house to house. It was because of what happened with his mom that he started to run away. He found running from his past made it easier to deal with. Running got him away from the pain. The jokster attitude appeared as another way to hide the pain, but also as he learned to handle himself around others. As he put it, "if you cracked jokes and pretended you weren't scared, you usually didn't get beat up. Even the baddest gangster kids would tolerate you, keep you around for laughs."
But Leo gets scared. Ghosts and dying were two big things that unnerve the kid, even though he hides it fast, especially by cracking jokes. He does this twice specifically. First, when he learned his bunk in Cabin 9 belonged to a previous dead counselor, and second when he volunteered to go on the quest with Jason. He acted all high and mighty, but in reality, he was scared out of his mind.
However scared he gets, Leo is extremely loyal to those he cares about. He still takes the blame for his mother's death, even though he was just trying to protect her from Gaea. And even after all this time, he's constantly thinking about her and what she taught him. As he grows closer with Jason and Piper, he does everything he can to protect them. When they were attacked by the cyclops, he could have easily turned and ran, but he stood and fought, even if he technically hid and put machines to work. He jumped into action again when they confronted Enceladus, taking out six Earthborn by himself, using the construction equipment to his advantage.
Often, Leo acts cocky and obnoxious, but it's just a show, almost like his joking habit is. In reality, he doesn't think all that highly of himself. He thinks he lame and unlucky, and gets jealous easily, even with his best friends. When under the spell of Medea, he even voices some of this. He goes on about how Jason is always the star and he's always taken for granted. Even when Jason and Piper appear to be having feelings for each other, Leo gets jealous - but not because he likes Piper. He doesn't like feeling left out, like a third wheel. He's happy for his friends, and he wants them to be happy, but he also wants to feel needed.
Leo's got a severe problem when it comes to girls. See, whenever he sees a girl, and not just any girl, one that is completely out of his league, he falls madly in love with him. Granted, yes, he admits being able to fall for any girl, it's those special ones that don't pay him a lick of attention that he falls the hardest for. One such example was with Thalia, Jason's older and immortal sister. She is one of Artemis' Hunters, meaning she made a pact never to love a man, yet the moment Leo saw her, he was head over heels in love. He even tried flirting with her, and when she shot him down, all he did was insist she was just in denial, or that she was just hiding her true feelings.
Another thing about Leo is that he gets along better with machines than 'organic life forms,' something he gets from his dad. Since his dad is Hephaestus, the god of the forge, it only makes sense that Leo has a nack for machines, but it comes to the point that sometimes he would rather spend his time with those machines and not his friends. He even makes a bond with a metal dragon he fixes, which he affectionately names Festus. It practically destroys him when Festus is blown up, in which he asks his father to allow him to at least reuse the dragon. Hephaestus transports the dragon's head back to Camp Half-Blood, where Leo uses Festus' head as the masthead.

» EXSILIUM INFORMATION
Chosen WEAPON: Back home, Leo had a ~magical~ tool belt. If possible, I'd like him to have the same thing, or at least something very similar. The tool belt was able to summon any tool you could find in a normal workshop, as long as it was not too large. It could even summon other objects, like food and breath mints. The bigger and more uncommon the tool or object, the more strain was put on it, causing it to have to have time to 'cool down.' Magical objects and large items are unable to be pulled from it. Though not a huge fighter, when it came down to it, Leo tended to pull a club hammer out for battle.
Chosen SKILLSET: Leo is more of a mechanic than anything. If possible, he'd probably prefer spending time with the machines around than most people. Still, he'd probably want a part in missions. He isn't one to fight directly, but if necessary, he can and will. He's more tactical, though, using his skills with machines to manipulate what's around him to do what he wants.

First PERSON: [The feed cuts on to a Hispanic young male, a slightly mischievous grin on his face. Even from the brief sight of him, it's probably not hard to tell he's the kind of kid that'll get into a load of trouble. And he probably will, given time.]
So, umm. Not that, y'know, I'm complaining - I mean, nice place to stay, fancy weapons, free rent. Pretty sweet deal, if you ask me. I've lived in a lot of places, and seriously, this is one of the best, hands down, but... [The grin falters, a concerned frown taking it's place.]
My ship needs me. The Argo II's not any good without it's Supreme Commander. I've got an important mission to lead back home. I wanna help here - whatever I can do to get me back as fast as possible. And, well, what can I say? Separating a guy from his dragon never ends well.
[A pause, as he considers something for a moment, his face still taking on a more serious look.]
...Jason? Piper? You guys out there? Please don't tell me you two're letting me get into this mess by myself.
Third PERSON: As Leo ended the feed, he closed the notebook, running his hands over the sleek machine. If he didn't have better control over himself, he would probably crack it open and fiddle with the insides, but he knew he needed it in one piece right now. How else would he hear back from Jason and Piper? If not them, it was his way to contact others.
He'd disassemble it later.
For now he contented himself with fiddling with some gears he pulled out of his toolbelt. He had to hand it to this place, even the tool belt was just like his back home. Granted, he would rather be back home with his, this would make due for now.
He couldn't help but think of what was happening back there, either. If Jason or Piper were here, too, well, the whole mission would be a disaster. Especially if Jason was here. Jason was the head of the whole thing. He was the connection to Camp Jupiter. Though, he was the Supreme Commander of the Argo II. He was needed, for sure. The other memebers of Cabin 9 could handle it for a little while, but still. He was the piece that put the puzzle together. That was his ship. He was the one supposed to lead it into Camp, not them.
The ship was his moment to shine. To outshine Jason and his being Zeus' son, their new leader, and even Piper, Miss Daughter of Aphrodite. His two best friends, that were a lot better than him in a lot of ways.
So being away from it, being away from them? It kind of sucked. What they were doing was important, too. The fate of the world as they knew it rested on them. They had to get to the Roman camp and make peace. They had to get to Greece and stop the giants.
But this place needed his help too. Obviously, since they went through the trouble of bringing him here. He couldn't abandon these people, especially since they thought he was worth something. And maybe it wouldn't take too long. Maybe he'd get done super fast, get back to his ship, and help his friends save the world. It was possible, right? I mean, he only got brought years into the future. And being a Demigod, he had seen a lot of impossible happen.
"Jason, Piper?" He mumbled to himself, placing the gears back into his belt. "Don't have all the fun without me. You two better save a giant for me to take down."
